Here is a website with a new handle that is offered in sizes to fit many New Big Game reels. It is well made out of excellent materials and will bring a advantage to the big game angler. The new handle is built off a old idea from the the first Fin-Nor and is IGFA approved.
Here's a look at a great new product:

Great Stuff Brian and Happy Holidays to you and yours.
These old pictures sort of make me wonder why the upper handle did not make its way to more reels. It really makes a big difference when moving the rod from a rod holder to the fighting chair when there is a Mad Marlin ripping line off the reel.
And lets not forget the Ocean City 12/0 which never went into production. Another big question mark for me.

Hello Reel Nickels,
Interesting observation, I myself do not fish with tackle this large but I have always fished with convention reels and still do. My left hand is always in front of the reel when retrieving and guiding the line back from that position, not over the reel.
Possibly what you are saying is a reason for the non use of this feature. I can see where it would be in the way if your arm was over the reel guiding line. Most special add on products have pros and cons. Some also take some time getting used to and then become a feature that the pros out weigh the cons.
I have become accustomed to fishing with conventional reels mounted in a cradle and feel that is a superior set up. Yet the cradle feature, that has been around for many years, has never become the standard.
I will ask the maker of this product if he has any feedback about your opinion and get back to this thread with his answer.
HAPPY NEW YEAR--

Here is the response from the maker of the handle:
Mike,
I have taken that into account and you can get your hand under the handle for the purpose of level winding your line. I don't know what you published but in the description of the product, I address that point specifically.
Happy New Year back at ya...Ed
