Article in The Nashville Tennessean this AM discusses Oregon's plan to tax mileage driven rather than a per/gallon tax for their highway fund. Too many green people there buying hybrids and will likely buy all battery- powered cars as soon as they are available. How do they plan to do this? Easy. They plan to put satellite tracking devices on all new cars sold in the state-soon. They can then tell the following (among other many things):
How far you drove.
Where you went.
How long you stayed there.
More specificallly:
Where you went between the end of the work day and getting home.
How long you stayed at her house (or at the bar, whichever is more appropriate.)
Where you went fishing.
How good the fishing there likely was as to how long you stayed.
What football games you attend.
What church you go to.
How often you go to that church.
Where you like to eat.
What kind of gas you buy.
Where you buy it.
What political rallies you attend...
Etc., etc., etc. But don't worry. No one will ever check any of those things!
PS: And when you park the car, there are those cameras-Everywhere! My, is this a great country or what?

Bob, I don't think you are paranoid at all. Unless the American people stand up and stop this B.S., we will loose ALL of our ritghts and freedoms.
The U S Constitution is all but down the tubes right now. Nobody is paying attention to it. Our elected Senators voted down the auto company bailouts. Bush overruled them and dished out the money. He does not have the authority to do that. What are we going to tell our children and grandchildren when they find out their money is worthless ?
After January 20, it will not CHANGE. It will be just more of the same, only worse.
Global warming caused by man caused CO2 is the biggest hoax ever perpetated on mankind. If you don't believe me, read what scientists and meteorologists are saying.

PS: Interesting discussion on CNBC Monday relating to the "problem" with falling gasoline prices (not only expressed by environmental activists, but also some politicians). These guys say we need gas prices as high as those in Europe ($5 to $8/gal.) to force down gasoline usage. Market-driven pricing be dam-ed! The way they would do this is to place a massive federal tax on gasoline (like they do in Europe). Problem is, this has not reduced carbon emissions in Europe to any consequential extent. Those countries that agreeed to the Kyoto Accord couldn't meet their commitments (including Canada), and those requirements were not all that demanding.
Being carbon-free in 10 years as Gore and others propose, would require draconian measures-for that matter impossible measures!
