Penn Model 15

Post by Baitrunner »

I recenlty acquired a Penn model 15 reel... I have checked with all my resouces and Penn's service center and they were not familiar with this model.

Can anyone provide any details of the age/value of the reel?

can you show us a pic? or email one to and I'll have a look. I'm not familiar with that number. Is it a spinning reel? Casting?

Model 15

It is a conventional or baitcasting reel. If you go to the Penn website under "History" and then the "1930's" section you will see on the left handle side a picture of a Newport/Sea King reel. The Model 15 looks identiacal to it with the exception that it does not have the same right side bearing. Instead of the normal screw in type it just has a port in the side plate for oiling.

I will try and post a picture tonight.

:D 8) :!:   :type: Yup! you got a nice one, ok , to get it to free spool, pull the handle away from the body, the handle should be a wwoden knob, not a bad reel for its time, the value again depends on condition, if new in the box with papers and no damage , $55.00 and up, if as used condition , $5.00 to whatever the demand is, we still use them for trowling in lake Erie , Your Ohio Conection Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG I may have a factory diagram of it, will advise later!
