Of possible interest to anyone contemplating the replacement of hard rubber parts on a vintage reel or wants to try their hand at making a reel: I have a limited supply of ebonite made in the original composition. It is composed solely of latex rubber, sulphur and carbon black vulcanized in the original manner.
My blog shows a picture of a new ebonite reel face that is in the machined state on the left and hand polished for just under 10 minutes on the right. Available by the square foot (which is slightly misleading,
they are half a sawblade width under that), or in smaller pieces with an
upcharge for cutting. PerfectionFlyReel.blogspot.com

That looks like a priceless resource for anyone restoring a valuable reel. But if you plan on making your own, or doing such a thorough restoration of derelict parts that it would be fakery to pass it off as anything but a using reel, the following URL has many useful materials and tools. Some can be found under dymondwood and micarta, as well as the metals.
