a rarity or at least an oddball reel

I have before me what appears to be a rarity or at least an oddball reel. Its a very old Penn Long Beach. A fairly common reel, I know, but the Strange part is that its LEFT HANDED ! I have never come across this thing before. The reel has all the ear marks of a early Penn, round logo, crosshatched click button, no parts numbers. Can anyone enlighten me about this thing ?
