Global Blizzard

Dumb---ed group of Goreites in Washington this past weekend were doing the climate change panic thing-in a blizzard. Snowing so hard the video was blurred. You couldn't read their signs, but I did make out the words "coal suc-s" on one. You would figure the time to do that sort of thing would be in July. Oh well, something to do on a bitter cold March day.

PS: My family was forced to find new shelter from the same snowstorm-in Athens Georgia. Eight inches with trees and wires down. At least not as bad as the ice storm in Kentucky. Boston now has had close to 200 percent of normal snowfall this winter. This global warming thing is getting serious!

You know, it's pretty amazing the minor amount of hoopla that has arisen over the fact that very large areas of the earth (maybe all of it, given a nice dust cloud) were only 43,000 miles and a few hours away from oblivion a couple days ago. Reports are that a meteor the size of a 10 story building missed the earth by that trivial distance...and the thing is, most of us had no idea we were even at risk...at least no one I've talked to had a clue that it was coming (maybe that's a function of the folks I hang with). Can you imagine how even a water landing, with the 100 ft tidal wave, etc, would have changed the world perspective about what is important? So, life is fragile...buy the reel..

Russian scientists have concluded that an ice age is imminent. The Sun, which is the driving force for climate change (not CO2) has been very quiet (no sunspots) and the earth has actually been cooling down over the last 12 years.

The Russians say that since the Sun is sleeping, an ice age could be triggered by 1. A natural occurrence like a large volcano or 2. a slight reduction of CO2. The ice age, once triggered, could happen very fast, like 10 years !

Deke: I agree. I heard a brief sound bite about that near miss, then nothing. And it is scary that this is one that slipped up on us. So much has been said about how we are tracking all the big ones and how we can divert them. We have enough trouble dealing with birds that get sucked into jet engines. Millions of meteors zipping around in the skewed asteroid belt make for tough targets.

Maybe that is why the Government is handing out cash like candy and isn't worried about the quadrillion dollar debt it will have in the near future. There might not be a long range future or need to pay it back. Live today like there is no tomorrow
