Rock 'n' Reel!!!

Post by mortepa »

For those of you that met Lisa, my girlfriend at the national, we are now officially engaged! Thank-you all for buying some reels out of my collection over the last year! Here is the ring that you all helped me buy Lisa! :-)

Unfortunately, from now on I won't be able to spend ALL my money on reels and then eat Ramon noodles for a month to recover financially! haha

Paul:

You should have given Lisa a nice reel rather than a ring. The reel will retain value and look nice in your collection. The ring will cost your dearly. Congradulations.

The crank knob and end caps are missing from that thing.
Best wishes to you and Lisa.

Grads to both of you! You know the old saying, "A ring on a finger one day, A ring in the nose the next!" That diamond would look good in a jeweled end cap!
Best of luck in the furure.

Thanks guys! She is a good one. She even knows what German silver looks like, what a counter-balanced handle is, and what a jeweled endcap is...she likes the jeweled endcaps of course. I think that is cute. She is definitely a potential collector down the road. We will see. At the very least she appreciates our hobby. Thanks again for the congrats! :-)

Paul, let her buy whatever she thinks is "cute". Marilyn (Mrs. Geezer) insisted on collecting cute things when at tackle shows. Her first collection was several dozen Heddon Punkinseed when they cost about $10 each. It was sold when they reached the $100 mark. Then she chose small hard rubber reels. At that time Montague and Pflueger fly reels were in the $50 range, and we bought quite a few - also vom Hofes, Conroys, and lots of others that are mostly still fought about on this board. She bought them because they were cute, and now has collectors stopping her at most shows and asking to be remembered if she decides to sell.

Paul, I remember Lisa clearly from Fife. She was a rose among thorns in that showroom. Congratulations and may God bless you both. (Any thoughts of naming your first child Dixie, Gem, Hawkeye, or Rocket?) Jim

Paul/Jim,

My entry into the name pool would be Avalon, Avalon Mortenson. But you should take some time to think about all that, Paul, or I'll have to share with you the 50 creative ways to make Ramen exciting. Let's see, there's pink and white fishcake, spam, re-hydrated seaweed...

Paul, First, congrats to you and Lisa, anybody that would follow you into a rain forest has to be a keeper! Second, I am crushed that you didn't use the beautiful Pflueger Oceanic you got from me at Fife to "seal the deal"! Cheers, Alan

first born name.

Post by reelland »

Paul and Lisa,

Firstly, congratualtions to you both! :D

Secondly, my vote for name of first born daughter is Goldie, as in Goldewest. Goldie would look great in scripted lettering Paul if you catch my drooling drift. For a boy, I like Pierce Hackeye Mortensen, as in Hawkeye Pierce from 4077th MASH fame. Pierce might get by Lisa for a first name, but probably not Hawkeye. 8)

Now, thirdly Paul, it seems you might to be needing to thin out your collections for your growing family. Please keep me in mind on the above eluded to Goldenwest. Best of luck to you both, Bill Land.

Congratulations, Paul and Lisa, and much happiness to you both!

Paul, count your blessings. If most of us geezers hadn't waited until the honeymoon to start collecting, we'd still be single.

Oh yeah, name suggestions. Naming the first four sons after the 4 Bros. would be tacky, but consider giving them all the middle name, Enterprise. Your daughters' names should be easier--Faultless, Supreme, Trusty, and Worth. (Avoid the Cub handle.)

Names

Hey Paul,

If we were talking future pet names, if kids aren't in your future or even if they are, a good hunting dog name could be Trusty, or Captain, or Buckeye, Redifor, Worth, Avalon, Norka, Nobby, Victor, Rocket, Gem, Jupitor, Superex, or Mars... shoot, lets get "reel". Any of those old Pflueger names would work for a DOG! Probably would be no problem getting Lisa to accept a pet with a Pflueger nickname either. Huh  , I wonder if any of our fellow ORCA memebers have a dog named after a reel?

See you in Peoria Paul, Bill Land.

Thanks for the enjoyable reading everyone. Lisa says hi to all of you too. I am still thinking on the name thing and how to approach her with the idea. We will just have to see on that. :-)
