Don't do this ---------

Post by Don Champion »

About a month ago I bought a Simplicity reel on e-bay. I received the reel and had no complaints, it was as it should have been. Then I started cleaning it. DON'T TAKE THE FREE SPOOL MECHANISM APART! It has a 1/16" ball and a coil spring I/16" in dia. X 3/16" long in it. That thing moves faster than the speed of light! I think it turns to atoms and reassembles itself out in the yard somewhere. I went all over that room with a magnet. Anyway I called on Milton Lorens and he sent me an assortment of small springs & balls. I found what I needed and it only took me an hour to reassemble the free spool part, working in a clear plastic bag. Just my hands in there, I know what you guys will say.
Can you immagine what it must have been like in the assembly room at the factory?

sounds like it would make a great gary Larson panel, eh? :D I feel your pain re those little springs...it can also be fun exploring the bowels of an Alcedo Micron, when you find those bearings that make it run so smoothly!
