A trip to the Fair

Post by john elder »

Well, my fly rod didn't win anything, but I can take solace in the fact that I got my butt kicked by some fantastic pieces. It was an odd category called "traditional woodworking..Accessories", which resulted in quite a hodgepodge of entries. First place was a beautiful 14 ft Kayak, seen here towering over my little rod:

Second place was a 10 ft Balsa surfboard:

and of course, no trip to the Fair is complete without some healthy treats:

Wow indeed!

And all this stuff is made right here in America. What a concept. You have some outstanding fellow craftsmen down there John. It is heartening to see that pride and workmanship is alive and well in our country.

And my blood sugar just squirted our of my ears looking at that chocolate obscenity. (How many did you eat)?

Truly beautiful wood art. Wow!
Hey Deke, it is all in the eye of the beholder. I would not have wished to be a judge in that show! Your rod or any piece there was a winner in my opinion. Although I know you do excellent work, I must say I lusted for that kayak.

Yes, very true, BB...and I hope that came across in my post. ...and it's easy to see the untold hours of labor that went into that kayak, surfboard, and other pieces. you can't see the 30 hours work that went into producing my brown stick :D

John ,
Great photos of Artisans' work. Stunning what some people can achieve . The wood never looked this good when it was alive and growing.

Bad luck with the judges ...I guess they were not anglers
