well, Milt, that's what the Fox Network Nazis want you to think...quite a campaign cooking to convince us Crustys that Obama wants to put us to sleep. But the H1N1 flu is a unique bug that calls for unique protective moves...quote from an article about a 39 year old bull rider that died:

"Unlike other illnesses that fall hardest on the frail and elderly, the H1N1 virus is taking a toll on middle-age people who have not developed immunities, Netherda said.

Nationally, the average age of death from the virus is 49, he said.

"I hear a lot of people saying it's just the flu, but it's not," Netherda said. "This is a different organism. The risk groups normally affected -- the old and young -- that's not the risk group here. It looks more like the middle-ground people."

In 1976 there was a small swine flu outbreak , one person died from swine flu , over 400 died and over 2000 had some type of very bad reaction to the flu shots , some with permanent injuries . 60 Minutes covered it in 1979 after the damage was done . I'll pass on a flu shot thank you .

Just a quick update...turned on the news this AM and 4 more women have died of swine flu in San Diego this past week...53, 50, 30, and 41. ...and Bill, I remember that swine flu fiasco as well and that's exactly what it was...Gerald Ford took all the flack for trying to be proactive about a potential pandemic at that time and was done in by a batch of non-attenuated vaccine--(have to do more homework...side effect was Guillain-Barre syndrome...not sure of what component caused this, but it certainly has not occurred on that scale with other flu vaccines). The "good" thing about that incident was that it prompted extensive testing of all vaccines produced since that time...nothing is guaranteed, but the risk, I believe, is minimal. On a global scale and over the past 100 years, the number of such accidents with vaccines has been insignificant compared to the number of people vaccinated and potential lives saved. But life is just one big trip to Vegas...have to stay in our comfort zones.

Three reasons for giving any flu vaccine to school kids before old folks: (1) the little beggars are nothing but vectors. Spread more disease around than mosquitos! Best way to stop such epidemics! (2) The future of the human race is in their hands (3) Old codgers like me are basically worthless (I still get flu shots annually but am glad to forego H1N1 shot if it is needed to save a young person's life. Especially since I am immune to everything except criticism).

Bad Bob

PS: Wash your hands frequently. Works better than vaccine at times. There are other things you can do. Ask Deke.
