PENN Spinfisher First Model 700 Mint Condition Circa 1961

This is the first model of the Penn Spinfisher number 700 second version.

The reel was introduced in April of 1961 with a solid crank handle. The first version did not have a counter balance weight in the rotating cup. Very few of the first version were manufactured. The second version has a stainless steel plate held in place by one screw that served as a balance. Both first and second versions of the 700 were only produced in 1961.

This reel appears to be in mint condition with only some minor flaws noted on the underside of the crank handle and frame. Pictures sent on request.

The appearance of the reel has a dark green color. The reel may have been repainted , but professionally done. The front knob is white and the crank knob is more of an ivory color.

The reel was found in the William “Bill” Samish collection shortly after he was murdered in Oakland, California a few years back. Mr. Samish was an expert in reel and brass locomotive restoration and the refinishing may have been one of his last works.

The reel would make an excellent addition to a Penn reel collector or just fish it.
