old D.A.M. spinning reels
I have just discovered this German company and am intrigued by the older models of their spinning reels. Are these worth collecting? They are fine examples of fastidious German industrial design but may not be hot as collectibles. I probably will keep on buying them but will temper my bids accordingly.
I know many of you collect casting reels - beautiful ones at that - but I grew up with spinning reels and hope to keep pursuing them. Any advice, information or help will be greatly appreciated.
And, yes, I intend to purchase a good reference manual which may answer many of these freshman-like questions.

DAM Qucik are worth collecting
There are many models of DAM Quick to collect. I particularly like worm drive spin reels and Quick made several models with that type of gear system like, the Microlite, 110 thru 550, the Quick Super, Finessa, and others. Many of the older high quality spin reels used this type of gear system including the US made Shakespeare reels, the Penn Spinfisher, & Martin. Other reel manufacturers including those from France, Italy, & Sweden all made top quality spin reels with worm drive gears. I agree with Carl, Ben Wright's book is the best spin reel book available. You will never regret getting one. Randy Heller

As much as I hate to delete other folk's messages, and never do unless absolutely necessary...I absolutely needed to remove the previous reply to this message due to a "derogatory" comment. We all need to be careful not to offend people from afar. Collectors from both Germany and Japan are highly regarded, and many frequent this board. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email me.
Thank-you very much,

No, it's your house. Fair enough.
About those Swedish reels, are any of them in particular that come to mind? Just wondering, seeing as how I happen to live there.
(and ps, have you seen the picture collection at Samlarklubben Rullen? (google it and try to click-browse yourself into it... don't have the URL right now, although it is here at ORCA somewhere too). Maybe there is some eye candy there for you.

Swedish spin reels
Dr Rob,
I am sure you probably know which spin reels I am talking about but the ones I was referring to are the ABU Cardinal reels (models 33, 44, etc and models 3, 4, etc) and the Zebco Cardinals which were made by ABU. Does that ring a bell now? HA! Randy Heller

Actually Randy, I'm not much into spinners (yet). But I'll keep an eye open for those and similar reels, so maybe I'll learn something. There used to be a used & collectible reel shop here that recently closed and sold a boxload of spinners to an aquaintance at another reel shop. Maybe I'll go dig through that sometime.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Dr Rob,
If you do check out those old spinners from the used & collectible reel shop could you let me know what they are? I would be interested in knowing what they are and may even be interested in buying one or two.
Thanks! Randy Heller
