need info

Post by schmorkes »

Some reels have been handed down to me from my Father. I am having trouble finding any history on some of them. Perhaps, someone can help me out? I figure if anyone can, it would be you guys.

1) This reel has a closed spool, the cover faces sideways and the line also comes out of the cover on the side. The spool release is a small spring-loaded lever located next to the seat. The crank is marked "Humphreys Denver". The bottom of the seat is marked " Model 4A". I cannot find any info about the manufacturer of this reel. Also, What is the correct term for this type of reel (I call it a sidewinder)? Were these reels intended for use on flyrods?

2) This reel is also a sidewinder. The cover is marked "Good-All, America's Finest Reels, Ogallala Nebr". I has a double-ended crank. The line pick-up retracts by turning the crank backwards.

3) Another sidewinder. The cover is marked "Fre- Line, Boulder Colorado ". The back is marked "Wright & McGill Co., Denver Colo. USA, Model 10-BC.

4) A Shakespeare 1924 MS Direct Drive Model EE.

5) Langley Whitecap Model 410.

Don't know anything about his reels just showing one way of getting some info on them. Also not advertising reels for sale by myself in case you didn't notice there for sale by differant sellers so take a pill and relax. Instead of critcizing my obviously fish poor attempt at helping this person why don't you offer the poster a helping hand with the requested info.

Classic

Post by Brian F. »

Another classic case of a misunderstanding again here, guys. (I'll step in to relieve John Elder for a spell here!)

To CWS: "Guest" who responded to the original question did not clarify he was not the one asking for help but that he was offering to help by providing the ebay auctions as references.

To "Guest": Might want to add some info to your post next time to clarify what your intent is. CWS thought you were the original poster and it appeared (as some visitors too often do) that you were using the board to plug some auctions.

I'll take JE's call for a beer about now.

:( :!:   :loco: to guest, Your call (take a pill and your four letter word shows your school that you attended didnt teach you much in the way of public relations, Carl is a very good member in ORCA has done more than his share, goes out of his way to help anyone in the human race, has more knowledge of Michigan made reels than anyone i know of! As for that low grade stuf you presented , its not realy worth the EBAY listing fees, and that handle is defently ZEBCO I ought to know because I have been a warrenty center for ZEBCO as of 1996! you owe Carl a appology however that may be too much to ask from a person like you! Take a pill? you seem to know about pills? we dont do pills on this imfo board, now please go somewhere else and play! we have honest work to do! Col. milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG your OHIO Conection

who was that masked miscreant? :loco:

and don't worry, Milt, he can talk that way as long as he remains annonymous (spineless).

Hey swimjig sounds to me like your spending way to much time in the back room playing with your ball bearings. All I was trying to do was show Gordonrs that there is some info available on ebay as well as the great info to be had on this site. To infer that his inheritance is crap and not worth a response is in my opinion rather rude of you.

Hey moderator (Paul ?), is there any way to permanently ban the ip addy of a flaming "guest" (troll)?

It also might be nice to remove a few posts (mine included) and return this thread to its original intent.

:o  8) :P :!:    Now guest! how nice of you to give a graet comment, yes sitting in the backroom playing with the ball bearings pays off quite well, I done 80 reels that had ball bearings last week to the average price of $30.00 or a total of $2460.00 in wages not bad for a ball bearing play thing! As for those reels you had on your site? hey I still have a top bid at .99cents WOW how exciting! as I said the listing fees will be more than that. If that is the best help you can do , as I see it for a member of ORCA the GORDONRS then you have done the a great diservice by putting up like reels in POOR Condition to represent their reels! To the GORDNRS (condition is 98% of the reel, rarity plays However if a person colects a certain type of reel, then they will pay more fo a decent reel, and the boxes and paperwork also is a big factor! ie Langly 410 white cap by Lawsond 3rd edition as $5.00 to $30.00 yourGOOD ALL 4a from $5.00 to $30.00, Free Line 10 BC $8.00 to $35.00 new in box, 1924 Shakespere Direct drive modle EE $12.00. that is according to Lawsons thrid edition price book. , No they wont make a down payment on a new auto however if you are coing to Colect reels you have a nice deversified select with good faimly Ties! Swimjig I'll try to explain with real small words so you can understand (get) it. I have no reels listed on ebay . All I was doing was trying to show another way to get a little info on his reels. As for the money you made last week good on you as long as your not charging too much to your clients to make it HMMM.

My two cents!
First of all, Guest , Identify yourself to gain some creditabilty or your post mean nothing. You might be a nine year old as you sound Secondly, If you want to pick a spat and degrade the Col., Please do it by E-mail. Wasting boad space on trying to deside who is the smartest, makes the most money or has a degree in spelling is a waste of time for me and I am sure others as well. KNOCK IT OFF!

I'm sure in an unusual position here...
You guys need to take a deep breath and back off. Guest did exactly what I do with the emails I get wanting to know how much a reel is worth - I send them to eBay to look for similar reels. Guest made it even easier, he posted the similar reels. He made one mistake - He did not explain what those posts were. Col. Milt misunderstood and thought the reels he posted were guest's sales. Then everyone got carried away and started gnawing on each other. Cool down, this was just a series of misunderstandings.

Do what I do - go fishing. It was beautiful this morning, and I got four nice bass in a couple of hours on topwater. One was 3 pounds. I missed 3 others, so there was lots of action.

It's not all play - The Reel News for September went to the printer today. It should go in the mail by September 1.

Thanks to you reelgeezer for the explanation and my apologies for not saying that the ebay posts were just for referance and not reels I have for sale. I have enjoyed reading the posts on this forum for quite some time and have learned a lot here thanks to all you oldtimers and even you swimjig. Just a little surprised at how quick I got jumped on for just trying to help. Kinda got my back up .And by the way the last two one line posts about spelling etc were a different guest that looks to be trying to keep the pot well stirred . Adios Amigoes p.s. Is anyone going to give the poor fellow who started this thread a hand ?
Dr Rob

It's okay, Guest. Think I recognize the literary fingerprint of the second, pot-stirring guest. He used to post at another forum.

Gordon rs, sorry I can't help right now. I'll keep it in mind though and come back if I come across something. Welcome aboard and stick around; it's a good forum even if this thread is a little bent.

Doc.

Posting, email, instant messaging, etc., are too easy. Most of us don't take the time to read other people's stuff carefully enough, and we usually send our own things without giving them a second thought (or spelllling check).

John, my initial reaction to your lake shot was, of course, "Jeez, he's telling us all to go jump in the lake." :x

Upon further reflection (for a change), I realized you were telling us all to go jump in the lake--and cool off.

But then I realized you were telling us that all our babbling doesn't amount to a hill of beans. :bricks:

Until I realized you were telling us, once again, that fishing is a calmer of unquiet thoughts.

Maybe a thousand words are worth a picture.
