Antique reel repair stuff - some RARE! Any interest?

Post by cyberfish2 »

Ivory, some elephant, and a walrus tusk. A solid (water?)buffalo horn. Some German Silver bar stock, the right stuff to make Meek & Milam handles, plus a few prototype handles and ivory knobs and screws.

All for sale, email me for pictures and details if you are interested. Ed Glenn, :D

I sent you an email also. I'm interested in the german silver stock and perhaps some of the other hardware. That is, if John doesn't take it.

Hi John..Re: ex-ORCA, they never offered a lifetime membership like the NFLCC once did, or I would still be a member. At 71, I seldom fish anymore, and I quit collecting reels after I retired 12 years ago. Life is still fun; I ride one of my two Harleys, and we travel a good deal, mostly on cruises. I sold enough old reels to buy my first Harley in 1999.
I joined eBay back then. I liked it so well I bought stock, and find it to be a good venue for buying and selling almost everything. I called them to check if I could list the ivory walrus tusk. Although I was given the go ahead to list it, I think I may have been misinformed, as I did not find any tusk products listed on eBay except for some scrimshaw. In Canada, it sells for 65 cents(US) per gram, but cannot be shipped to the USA. So, it is virtually impossible to obtain it legally here. I got it back in the early 1960's at the San Jose Berryessa flea market, long before the Marine Mammal Protection law was passed. Whether or not this makes it more valuable is a matter of speculation.
The Meek reel handle parts will probably go on eBay next week, if time allows, as well as the nickle (German) silver round and bar stock. Thanks for your interest. Ed Glenn aka cyberfish2.[/img]

You are right about the ivory. Just putting the word ivory in the description will get a listing warning. I tried to sell a whalebone carving but ebay pulled it because it had walrus ivory accents.

Outside of ebay- it is legal to sell Ivory goods in the US. Don't even think about shipping it out of the country.

There is also a big difference between Ivory goods and raw ivory. Here in alaska, I cannot buy raw ivory but I can buy it if is made into some sort of native art. I suspect that is a federal law.

Could you let us know the ebay numbers when you list the items? New german silver retails for $30 a pound at present.

My best friend had a knee replaced, and a quintuple bypass, so the listing is on hold for now...
