TN town names
Can your state beat these for place names? These have been on TN maps for many years. There are numerous others as good or better, but these are still tough to beat:
Yum Yum and Nankipoo, characters in the Mikado, and both in West Tennessee.
also:
Tiger Tail and Mouse Tail, also in West Tennessee (no idea how these came about).

Hey Bob,
I think the most peculiar name here in Missouri is...Peculiar, Missouri!
(From cityofpeculiar.com)
In pre-Civil War times the pioneer settlers decided their drowsy, maple-shaded hamlet ought to have a name. After several sessions in the general store they narrowed the choice to three names, but couldn't settle on any one.
All three names were sent to the post office for consideration. All three were in use elsewhere. They decided to appeal directly to the postmaster general, agreeing to let him make the final decision. 'We don't care what name you give us,' they said, 'so long as it is sort of peculiar.'
Probably with tongue in cheek the postmaster general wrote a long and courteous reply. He said he had given their predicament grave consideration. 'My conclusion.' he wrote, 'is that in all the land it would be difficult to imagine a more distinctive, a more peculiar name than Peculiar.' and Peculiar it has remained ever since.

Good list. We have a Mount Juliet here in Nashville. Since there is no mount-or even a hill-there, it may be a command, or at the least a suggestion.
We also have a town here named Fairview. Problem: there is no view from there-of anything but the town, not particularly fair.
Here are a few more:
Hell For Sartin Creek, TN
Thousand Sticks, E. Ky
Krypton, E. Ky
Monkey's Eyebrow, W. KY
