As some may have noticed, I have been listing some great old magazines on eBay. I was just preparing the description for an April 1915 Field & Stream when I came upon an offer by the magazine. For $5.00 Field & Stream would sell you a years subscription to their magazine and provide you with a genuine original oil on canvas painting of one of their cover illustrations. The paintings were 12 x 18 inches, and you could request any cover that had appeared on Field & Stream.
The problem is these were not the original cover paintings; they were reproductions. This should make an astute collector wary of any of those unsigned "attributed to" original oils that are sometimes found at shows or auctions.
