A couple of months back I listed a mint condition Jack Welch and everyone here was a whole lot of help with info and offers. I appreciate the great group of members here. I have now come across a Talbot #31 in very good condition, serial number 3739. Living just 40 miles from where this was made, I know quite a bit about it's history but not necessarily its value. Another interesting reel I have found is a Schmelzer's "Knock-down" "4 Multiple" . On the left plate it says "Quick Apart 60". My curiosity is if might have been built for Schmelzer's by Talbot after he moved to Kansas City. I have found no references to this reel anywhere else. Additionaly I have 2 Meisselbach Tripart 580's and an AF Meisselbach and Bro. Freespool "Takapart" 481.
I am helping my father's best friend downsize his collections and he is wanting to sell these. He is aware the Talbot is a good one and that the Meisselbachs are lower end. He knows nothing about the Schmelzer. If anyone has any interest I will send pictures. Thanks again.

We can pretty well say that the Schmelzer reel wasn't made by the Talbot Company. Talbot did make a reel for Schmelzer though, it was the "Lotus" model and was also marked with the Schmelzer Arms stamp and was intended to be sold by them. As to the Talbot #31, a reel that I paid a little over $1000 for about seven years ago, in today's economy I'd think on eBay it would sell in the range of $700-$850. Naturallly in any auction you never know for sure what something might sell for.
