I believe it was made in British Columbia. Very well made but no marking. Smooth brass foot, 4 1/2 inches across. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
Brian, yours is a sweet reel. Not knowing Dingley reels much (other than the name) are there any markings that would indicate a Dingley? What is most unusual and hopefully usefull in identifying the maker are the screws on my reel. You can see they protrude from the reel and come off with a wrench rather than a screw driver, so they are more bolts than screws. This reel is a head scratcher for me. Rob
Hi Rob, the Dingley Sea reels I've seen had the year stamped inside (late 30's)
From the back view yours wasn't made by Mr Dingley, but is almost certainly based on the Hardy Sea Silex (google some images)
Hi Brian, here is a breakdown of the reel. The spool is 1 1/2 inches across which is larger than Longstones or Silexs I have. Thanks for taking the interest. Rob
Knobs and line guide look to be a Peetz(made in B.C) and what i assume to be the clicker looks to be the same as a Cemm.(also B.C made)
Maybe another Canadian collector can be of help. Tony/
Hi Tony , thanks for the observations. The knobs do look similar to a newer Peetz in shape (although these ones are made of a clear acrylic or something) and the line guide is definately like a Peetz. But the internal mechanisms are brass whereas my Cemm reels aren't and the protruding screws on the reel and brass foot really throw me off. Thanks for the reply. Rob
