Don't believe everything you see on the net-or anything I write...but:
Overall graduation rate at Boise State 2008 (six year) was 26.2% (stated as "one of the lowest in the west"). Four year rate was 6.2% (no comment there).
Football graduation rate at BSU was 54%. Interesting.
Overall graduation rate at Univ. of Idaho was 53%
Vanderbilt overall graduation rate was 93%.
Football graduation rate was 89% (win-loss record is usually a reciprocal statistic)
UT football graduation rate is not to be discussed.
Thought Phil might wish to show how this is all either BS or meaningless (I suspect both).

Bab Bob:
I have no affiliation with Boise State, other than to root for a local school that has a fine football tradition and a great and honorable coach. However, I have heard that since BSU is a state commuter school with mostly local students there are lots who drop out. The University of Idaho is the premier academic school in Idaho, and very few people go to Moscow, Idaho except to stay in school.
My affiliations go to St. Lawrence University where graduation rates are 75-81% depending upon the year and athletes graduate at 81%. My loyalties also go to University of Oregon for my graduate work and Columbia University where I also did graduate work. I didn't bother to google their graduation rates.

Phil-This little post was not intended as an affront to BSU folks. It just came across the net and it seemed to me to be a significant statistic: Number three in the nation in football (and consistently good) but one of the highest dropout rates among the general school population in the country. That's a very unusual combination. U.S. News and World Report did state that BSU "was one of the up and coming schools to watch for" (or words to that effect). This might be one of those rare situations where the quality of an athletic team shames the university pooh bahs into some serious action to do the right thing. Notre Dame has always been an example of a school with a great football heritage and is a world class university.
Certainly St. Lawrence, U. of Oregon, and Columbia are superb schools. When I went to VU as I recall all it appeared you needed was $500 and a high school diploma. Still, $500 was a lot of money in the nineteenth century!
Go BSU! BB
PS: Another interesting statistic-VU has won more SEC games this year than UT (one vs none).

BB, I'm sure you were not disparaging BSU and were just curious. As I stated I have no information about their student body, but Google did. The following is BSU's explanation of the statistics:
John, I noted that St. Lawrence did include that figure in their statistics. Over 90% (I forget the exact figure) either were going on to further studies or already had a job.
I note they don't mention to problem of all the Nazi's we have in Idaho. Why Are Boise State’s Rates Lower Than the Norm? National studies show that student characteristics, even more than institutional characteristics, affect retention and graduation rates. These studies demonstrate that many aspects of a nontraditional student body have a negative correlation with retention and graduation. At Boise State these characteristics include:
• Above-average percentage of students 25 and older
• Above-average percentage of students with high financial need
• A number of academically under-prepared students
• Above-average percentage of first-generation college students
• High percentage of commuter students
• A number of students leaving for LDS missions

Here at Xavier we have a 94% graduate rate for athletes, third in all of Division 1 competing universities behind only Duke and Stanford. Our overall graduation rate is 69% which is pretty fair considering it costs $40,000 per year and the vast majority of drops are financial.

One final note-and another interesting statistic:
Both VU and UT womens basketball squads graduate 100% of their players every year.
Points out what I have told my grandson (a teenager): "The sooner you realize that women are superior to men in almost every way, the easier life will be for you."
Of course, it went in one ear and out the other. Eventually he will realize its true. For that matter, most women are even physically stronger (the only way most men are superior) than me-always have been.
No more comments on the subject. BB
